Whireid

Its name derived from the words Whiterush and the fairy creature known as the Nereid, the Whireid, also known as the Whiterush Wolf, is a social predator relatively common in rivers and streams.

Physical Description
Approximately the same size as a full-grown Dalmatian, the whireid manages to look, besides that little tidbit, absolutely nothing like a wolf or hound, or almost anything from Earth for that matter. It is a gray, mammalian creature with flippers for its front limbs, and with its rear limbs long since fused and lost, leaving only a long, whiplike tail. It has a long snout, filled with pointed teeth, excellent for catching fish and able to move much like a saw when consuming larger prey.
Magical Properties
Whireids are a unique species in that, like humans, not all of these creatures have the ability to use magic. In fact, magic remains a rarity among them. Those who have such capability are able to use air magic, however, which is sent out in highly controlled bursts to stun prey.
Social and Feeding Habits
The whireid gets its nickname, the Whiterush Wolf, from its habit of forming packs of up to ten individual whireids, which will work togetehr in hunting down their prey.
Mostly, these packs will work together to catch the fish that swim in the rivers and streams, stunning them with strikes from their tails, or alphas will use their air magic to help confuse. Whireids do hunt larger prey as well, and will often work together to take out such creatures as alabears that come too close to the river.
Danger Level
Medium. Whireids do not typically attempt to harm humans, as they are a bit too large for them to be comfortable taking on. However, started Whireids will attack. In addition to this, there have been cases of Whireids attacking small children, which is why most parents won't let their children near or in the Whiterush without being nearby themselves. On land, they are essentially harmless.
