Titania Grand Arcology

The Titania Grand Arcology is shaped somewhat like a massive, triple-tiered wedding cake, and can be called a city within a city. Each tier spans about eight stories connected by a latticework of staircases, and topped with the three-story-high Skyshine Spire, meaning that from the lowest floor of the Court of Water to the peak of the Skyshine Spire, the Arcology stands about twenty-seven stories high.

The Arcology itself has been built on Starfall Island in the middle of the Whiterush River, not far upstream from the point where Whiterush Falls dumps the river into the Carinac Sea. This gives it a political vantage point squarely between the House Petakova-run west side of Titania and the House Stocklin-controlled east side. Hence the reason much of the political happenings of the High Council take place in the Council Hall on the roof of the Court of Sky.

Well-kept parkland fills Starfall Island around the base of the Arcology, and lawns have been planted on the building itself where extra space between the edges of the tiers has also been converted to parkland. Within the Court of Land, also, a greenhouse for farming has been created.

Court of Water

Each tier serves a specific function in society. The lowest, known as the Court of Water, is primarily a trade level. Pomona Road runs through middle of it on an east-west course intersected by a shorter north-south segment, dividing it into four bazaars. The West Bazaar handles the trading of House Petakova's products; likewise, the East Bazaar does the same for House Stocklin. Cheap residences for shop owners and merchants can be found in both the East and West Bazaars.

The North Bazaar is unique in all of Titania. Sometimes referred to as the Theatre District, it's the colony's only city-funded arts district, and jobs and money are scarce. The Starfall Auditorium, and the James Worth Theatre are both here, as well as the Titania Casino--the only known one of its kind. Also here is the residential side street called North Row (or more commonly, Artists' Alley), known for its quirky, and often troublesome population of artists and performers. Up front, the North Bazaar seems wealthy, flashy, even extravagant, but it's within the more unseen areas, such as Artists' Alley, that the ever-present air of financial distress comes clear--the arts are suppressed in Titania's pragmatic culture.

As the North Bazaar can be called the Theatre District, there are those who would call the South Bazaar the District of Education. Home to the College of Titania, Starfall Library, and the most noted history museum, refinement of the mind is its primary focus. The College of Titania teaches students the particulars of such pursuits as journalism and architecture - generally things taught in neither the University of Petakova nor the University of Stocklin. Starfall Library is said to have the most expansive array of books and knowledge to be found anywhere in the colony, and the history museum documents Titania's beginnings, and before to knowledge of the Empire.

Court of Land

Court of Land is the second tier of the Titania Grand Arcology, and serves mainly a residential function. As with the Court of Water, it is split into quadrants by a pair of intersecting paths, at the center of which the Grand Stair climbs between the three courts.

The four quadrants of the Court of Land are referred to as the North, South, East and West Promenades, and are each more or less alike. The housing within them--consisting of small to middle-sized apartments--is both more abundant and more expensive than the little there is in the Court of Water below. Those that live there tend to be wealthy commoners and lower-class nobility from each House. Those buildings here that are not dwellings are mainly businesses, including banks, post offices, and smaller workplaces.

Also within the Court of Land is a sizeable greenhouse, constructed with glass walls meant to catch the sunlight and feed the plants within. This serves a as a kind of farm, providing a place to farm animals and plants alike.

Court of Sky

The Court of Sky is a mix between the residential and the political. As a rule, it is trafficked by nobles alone, and commoners are kept out by guards at the base of the Grand Stair. Those few exceptions would be criminals and higher ranking officials of the Titania Militia, who deal with them. The lower floors of the Court of Sky are devoted to the residences of the nobility that live within the Arcology, while the roof is decorated with a number of other buildings serving political purposes. Among these are the Council Hall of the High Council and the House of Justice, which tries cases of high political impact or involving higher crimes.

Another building of note at the top of the Court of Sky is the Skyshine Spire--a three-story conical watchtower which makes the highest point in the Arcology, and from which place, twenty seven stories above the ground, virtually all of the city can be seen. A couple members from the Titania Militia usually keep a vigil here, with a watch on the mountains and the sea for anything that might pose a threat to the colony.
