THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS.
5344 CE: The Terran Empire, its capital on old Earth, stretched across the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. Its ruler, Empress Titania, commissioned an exploratory mission consisting of several hundred colony ships. Each ship, carrying over 50,000 individuals, was sent on a different course to find and colonize new worlds. One of these ships, the ES Starfall, is placed under the command of two houses of blood nobility within the Terran Empire; House Stocklin and House Petakova. Admiral Julia Petakova is the official commander of the ship, but it is understood that the houses will share power on whatever colony they establish.
5401 CE(1 AT): 57 years later, the Starfall discovers the planet Voltumnus, a world exceedingly similar to old Earth. They land the ship on the mainland, next to the Whiterush River, and name their settlement Titania in honor of the empress.
1 AT: The settlers expand, getting comfortable, beginning to work on adapting their plant/animal life to the native biochemistry and the native plant/animal life to their biochemistry (though it is largely compatible). Local species are noted as occasionally hostile when encountered in the wild.
8 AT: The Houses realize the communication satellite they left in orbit to speak with the Empire is dead.
16 AT: The Houses decide to disentangle the military from the Houses, as Voltumnus appears to be a dangerous enough world that service in the military is not as ceremonial as in the Empire. The Titania Militia is formed to be both police and army, led by a Field Marhsal.
25 AT: Admiral Julia Petakova dies. In light of the conditions on Titania, the two Houses decide to establish a High Council that rules the city, consisting of the two highest officials of each House, the Field Marshal of the Titania Militia, and one Admiral as the colony's supreme ruler. The Admiral, it is decided, will be voted upon by all noble citizens. Following the old Empire tradition, the children of nobles have been inheriting their parents' old military titles of Ensign, Lieutenant, Commander and Captain.
34 AT: The Title of Admiral is changed to Amera to help differentiate it from the military rank.
55 AT: The High Council legalizes that the title of Captain cannot be inherited, but must be appointed by the Amera, due to the extreme importance of the Captains' duties. Captain is changed to Hapta for the same reasons as Amera's alteration.
68 AT: Humans first encounter the Sessuyan while doing routine scouting. The Sessuyan flee immediately, thinking the humans to be a strange new beast.
76 AT: The first settlement, Hadria, is officially opened on the plains to the west of Titania. (Hadria would be completely razed in 510 AT during a period of brutal war.)
89 AT: After a very long reign, Amera Abidemi Stocklin becomes one of the colony's first citizens to actually die of natural age-related causes. He is replaced by Amera Julien Petakova, Julia's grandson.
93 AT: Admiral Amera Petakova is assassinated; tensions between Stocklin and Petakova sharpen noticeably as a Stockliner is blamed. However, it eventually comes out that a lesser noble had arranged it, hoping to take his position; both the assassin and the backing noble are executed as equal partners in treason. Admiral Pavel Stocklin ascends to power.
107 AT: The legal judgment in the case of Fry versus Smith establishes the precedent of punishing crimes against other individuals with financial payments, violent crimes with jail time, and crimes against the community by serving the community.
114 AT: The High Council legalizes removing the inheritance of the title of Commander as well; now only Lieutenant and Ensign are titles regularly passed from parent to child, with Commanders being appointed by a vote of all Haptas and the Amera, and Haptas becoming appointed directly by the Amera, while the Amera is still appointed by vote of all nobility. With this comes a secondary change to make the ranks Essen, Luten, Manda, Hapta, and Amera.
118 AT: Amera Pavel Stocklin dies in a horrific accident involving autoerotic asphyxiation, the details of which remain a secret to this day; he is succeeded by Amera Galen Petakova.
121 AT: A year of unusual tropical activity in the Carinac Sea culminates in Hurricane Felix, a mighty storm that leaves the first ever Carinac Dragon spotted washed up on the beaches of Titania.
133 AT: The second major settlement outside of Titania, Abeline, is established. It is noticeably further northwest than Hadria, approaching the foothills of the Poleveskians.
147 AT: A terrible rash of influenza sweeps through the city, known as Rosie for its habit to be paired with a nasty fever.
151 AT: Amera Galen Petakova dies after a very long and successful reign. He is succeeded by Amera Megumi Petakova.
164 AT: Hurricane Io batters the coast, resulting in a marked drop in fishing for a year or two while everyone struggles to rebuild the fledgling fishing fleets.
178 AT: A Militia outpost in the foothills north of Abeline is mysteriously wiped out overnight...
200 AT: Construction begins on the Titania Grand Arcology, designed by an architect named James Worth, in celebration of the colony's bicentennial.
203 AT: Amera Megumi Petakova dies of natural causes; Gloria Petakova becomes Amera.
206 AT: First skirmish with the Sessuyans, soon breaking out into outright war through 206-208.
209 AT: Aviary Tower's first incarnation is built, a tall watchtower to keep an eye out on the western front.
211 AT: Amera Gloria Petakova marries Hapta Nathalie Stocklin; the two Houses enter a period of extreme cooperation and pleasant relations.
214 AT: The Arcology is unveiled as a finished building.
224 AT: Nathalie Stocklin dies in suspicious circumstances; both Petakova and Stocklin blame each other for the death, and the pleasant cooperation between the two sides of the city greatly cools.
228 AT: Gloria Petakova is the first Amera to willingly abdicate her seat before death, citing grief; she is replaced by Chun-Hua Stocklin. Historians tend to debate on whether or not she really willingly abdicated, or if she stepped down in response to the threat of removal due to her increasingly erratic, paranoid actions.
229 AT: The High Council legalizes adoption into House Stocklin or House Petakova as an Essen without adoption into a specific family, allowing the Houses to adopt adults merely on the basis of merit without the previously used pretense of familial ties. The vote is extremely contentious, as Stockliner opponents declare this is an unacceptable break from Empire law and custom.
237 AT: The Spooks unravel a plot to overthrow the Houses and go to full martial law. The instigator, one Corporal Hesseney, is executed.
255 AT: A proposal to rename Titania is defeated by the High Council.
258 AT: Chun-Hua Stocklin dies of old age and is replaced by Amera Ralph Petakova.
261 AT: With a Petakovan Amera on the throne, The High Council ratifies a change that makes the children of Luten Essens instead of Lutens, and the children of Essens non-noble, in response to a growing glut of useless nobility. This is considered by most historians to be the point at which Titania officially become a meritocracy, though blood ties have never ceased to matter.
264 AT: Hurricane Joy, ironically enough named, floods everything in sight. There is little loss of life, but a great deal of damage done.
273 AT: Ralph Petakova begins to show signs of strange mental instability; the symptoms become clearly dangerous when he appears before the populace entirely naked and declares it the year of no pants, forbidding all citizens to wear them. Shortly thereafter he is de-throned, diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia due to his dogged insistence all poly clothing was wrought with Stocklin listening devices, and replaced by Amera Ulrike Stocklin.
292 AT: The Lovers establish a small outpost about five miles from the wall to the west, sending men on a constant rotation back and forth to keep up a steady watch for signs of beast movement.
302 AT: Ulrike Stocklin dies of cancer; she is succeeded by Amera Jessica Stocklin.
345 AT: Jessica Stocklin dies and is succeeded by Amera Arjuna Stocklin.
363 AT: Amera Arjuna Stocklin is ousted in a Militia-led coup when he is suspected to be guilty of murdering a reporter who caught onto some shady financial deals he was brokering. Before he can be questioned and tried, he dies suspiciously in custody, causing a massive uproar in Stocklin. The end outcome is a new Amera- Mikaela Petakova- and new official policy that the Militia cannot arrest an Amera without the High Council's permission.
394 AT: Fort Solomon naval base is founded in the Blah Archipelago, about two hundred miles
south of the Titanian coast.
464 AT: Akachi "Godhand" Bremanji, a man famous for his prowess on the battlefield, nigh-singlehandedly holds back a massive Sessuyan sea attack long enough to allow a boat of civilians to flee to the naval base at Fort Solomon and warn them. His heroism saves possibility the entire base from being wiped out by a sneak attack.
574 AT: Jacob Linden is the first human to discover magic. Within 50 years, everyone's learning it.
603 AT: Charon is daringly founded as a Militia outpost in land the city barely has any hold on. Many people die to keep it.
642 AT: Jacob Linden dies, rich and happy, at the age of 113.
675 AT: A massive Militia initiative plans to revolutionize war with magic.
690-693 AT: Nasty war time
694 AT: Amera Josef Stocklin begins the space elevator project.
700 AT: The elevator is finished. The Concord project is unveiled.
705 AT: Amera Josef Stocklin dies and is succeeded by Amera Felix Petakova.
708-709 AT: A group of terrorists funded/supported by Luten Ilena Petakova tries to blow up the space elevator, in what comes to be known as the Concord Sabotage. They are stopped and executed.
709 AT: Charon is besieged and several visiting dignitaries nearly killed.
710 AT: Alert is founded perilously close to the Sessuyan hunting grounds protected by the treaty of 693 AT. The Alert Massacre and the Red Summer follow. Amera Felix Petakova is unmasked as an imposter and Amera Amber Kingston rises to power.
