Voltumnus is a world of mystery and contrast. Summers are blazingly hot, plagued with tornadoes and typhoons; winters are brutally cold, marked by blizzards and ice storms. Strange beasts both natural and genetically engineered roam the land, particularly in the unknown expanses of the jungle. Beautiful oceans and breathtaking mountains sit side by side with the hilly, barren frontier.

700 years ago, humanity arrived on this planet to find it already occupied. Increasing demands for land and resources led to inevitable conflict between the settlers and the natives, the Sessuyan, an alien race with strange powers that humanity would eventually master as well. Centuries of war culminated in three years of never-before-seen bloodshed, only weariness finally opening up the possibility of peace.

Now, humanity stands at a crossroads. The colony of Concord upon Voltumnus's moon has opened up space exploration; the settlements of Fort Solomon and Charon abut unknown lands on the planet itself. A new generation that has never known war with the Sessuyan is rising to adulthood, and change promises to follow.
