The staffrequest system is a system we have in Elan Vital for helping our players get in contact with staff over their needs. It has a simple, easy to use interface, which we will be going over below.

Filtering

By far the most complex part of this system. Filters are placed one after another in the format <filter type>=<filter>|<another filter>. The | indicates or, if you wish to search for more than one thing. There are no spaces between the equals signs, and a space between each filter. E.g. +str/list type=bug|question status=pending

  • player or requester - The name of the player that submitted the request.
  • admin or assigned - The admin assigned to the request.
  • type - The type of request.
  • subject - A word contained in the subject of the request.
  • status - The status of the request.

Tutorial

Placing a Staffrequest

Starting a New Staffrequest

Starting a new staffrequest is simple. All you have to do is type +staffrequest or +str, and you will be brought into an editor, while still able to play the game. Once you do, this message should appear:

[Request System] You have started a new Staff Request. Use +str/type <type> to set the type, +str/subject <subject> to set the subject and
+str/body <body> to set the body. When you have finished, use +str/review to review your +str before it is sent off, and +str/submit to submit it.
Use +str/cancel at any time to cancel your +str. Use +str/help for a full list of commands.

Type Line

Using the subject shown above, type +str/type <type> to select the type of staffrequest you are submitting. Valid types are as follows:

Bug, Question, Suggestion, Biography, Miscellaneous, Typo, Article

We ask that you try to use the right subject type, to expedite our handling of the most important (bugs or bios, most of the time, so we can be sure everyone can keep playing ;) ). An article is a request for a news article, a system still under development.

Subject and Body

The subject and body commands as shown above give us the subject and body of the staffrequest. Pretty simple, yes?

Submission and Afterwards

Be sure to review your staffrequest before submission, and then submit. At this point, it is in our hands, though you can view it and comment.

To view your staffrequests, type +staffrequest/list. +staffrequest/list # will show the pages if you have enough to fill more than one page. When you have found the staffrequest of interest, +staffrequest/view <request #> will let you view it.

+staffrequest/comment <request #> will allow you to add a comment to your request, which staff may also do. This is useful if clarification is required.

You will receive @mails as updates are made to your request. The staff will see them fixed as swiftly as possible.

Important: Notes on Formatting

Now, we are patient people and will read through whatever you send to us, but there are some things we would ask of you in return. Basically, we'd like the staffrequest to be readable. You can handle the basics easily - use spelling and grammar check on your computer. A biography full of typos, for example, may not pass muster (we can handle a few. Everyone does that.).

Also, we encourage you to use line spacing in your staffrequests. It's a simple process - between paragraphs, type in %r%r. This will give you a line space between those paragraphs, and make it a bit easier for us. If you'd like, you can indent the beginning of your paragraphs with %t, but that isn't necessary. Just thought you might like to know that, if you /do/ like to have that in. See Basic Text Formatting for more information.

Lastly, after you submit, double-check your staffrequest. Sometimes a really long one can have the end be cut off. If it's just a few missing words, add them in a comment as explained above. If it cut you off halfway through, send up a second staffrequest with that half in there.
