Roc

The first, and one of the most devastating encounters with Voltumnan life by the original colonists, the roc is almost single-handedly responsible for stranding the new arrivals, due to the fact that it destroyed their scout ships. Named after the mythical earth bird.

Physical Description
With a wingspan of well over forty feet and feathers of a mottled blue-black, the roc is an avian native to the planet Voltumnus, king of its predatory species and thankfully relatively rare. Unlike most Terran avians, the roc does not have a beak. Instead, a mouth full of wolfish teeth are its weapons, enabling it to tear meat, and its talons have been known to score solid rock.
Magical Properties
Though it does not use magic to attack, it is widely accepted that the roc does use magic near-constantly. It has an affinity with air magic, which it uses to keep itself aloft. Because of its enormous size, the roc requires this magic to lift itself, and to guide it through the skies.
Habitat
Unknown, but it is presumed to make its nest deep within the Poleveskian Mountains, where it hunts all manner of large game. They have been spotted over the Carinac Sea as well, where naturalists presume they hunt large marine life.
Danger Level
Critically high. Titanian forces will not engage a roc unless absolutely necessary.
