Player Protocol
From Elan Vital Wiki
Note: These rules apply to all players of Elan Vital--no exceptions. That includes staffers. No, staffers do not get perks for being staff. Our characters are treated exactly like any other. The only exceptions may be when those characters are needed for plots.
- Profanity is allowed. That's right, you can swear if you want to. HOWEVER. All players will be expected to be responsible about it. Just because you can is no reason to cuss out every other word. Also, the reason profanity is allowed at all is for characterizational reasons - make it IC, and keep it that way. OOCly (and especially on-chan), please keep it to a minimum.
Also, it should never, ever turn up on the newbie chan. ;-)
- Elan Vital does not employ an age limit policy. Frankly, we really don't care how old you are. The game rating is PG-13 to light R, and players will be expected to be reasonably mature.
- Minors will not be permitted to engage in TinySex. And yes, if we catch you at it and you're underage, you will be banned.
- TinySex of any kind should be kept to private places, where other players are not going to stumble in on it by accident. In addition to this, all players participating in a TinySex scene must agree--explicitly. That's right, you have to ask first. ;-) Fade to Black is encouraged, but not enforced.
- Harassment of anybody of any sort will get you banned.
- Advertising will be kept to designated areas. If you're not sure where these are, poke a staffer.
- The IC/OOC Line will be respected. If you're not sure what that is, click the link.
- So will the ICA = ICC Policy.
- Metagaming, or God Moding is not allowed under any circumstances or in any form. It irritates other players, and it irritates staff.
- Players are welcome to start their own plots. Please do! However, if a player starts a plot, it is theirs. Other players may participate in it to their heart's content, but only the one running the plot will be allowed to steer it. Staff may bend this rule, but only when the plot begins to threaten the theme. As a rule of thumb, players do not need to ask staff if they can run a plot unless it touches one of these items.
- Keep it thematic. Your RP, your bio, everything but what goes on OOCly should all adhere to theme. No, you did not crash land on Voltumnus from an alien escape pod. No, you were not raised by wolves outside of Titania's walls. No, you are not going to build yourself a canoe of cinder blocks and sail off to unknown adventures across the Carinac Sea.
- Character death happens, and yes, Elan Vital does live by Permadeath. However, if it looks like a PC is about to die in a scene, staff should be contacted and the circumstances explained. If possible, a log should be provided. If nothing else, staff can at least sign off on it verifying that the death really is necessary.
The reason for having this rule is that killing off characters, while it can make for some of the most intense and memorable scenes anywhere, permanently ends that character's existence. It can be as much or more of a killjoy than it can make for an excellent scene. Which is not to say it will never happen, only that it should be run by staff first.
- Always ask before posting logs on the Wiki. You have a right to hang onto logs of any scene you participate in, but before going public with it, you should always ask the other player(s) in the scene. The exception to this rule is any log of a major event (E.g., +calendared ones), or the log of any scene involving four or more players.
This rule is only made possible by the Puppet Policy, and it is important that you familiarize yourself with this policy. Without it, staff would be forced to require logs of every scene in order to keep up with activity on the grid.
- Alts are permitted without restriction by number--the sky's the limit, as long as you can pull them all off believably. Your alts do not, however, interact unless it's vitally important and/or unavoidable and you clear it with staff first. This means that no, you may not have more than one character in a single scene at a time. (Having more than one alt involved in separate but simultaneous scenes at once is fine, however. For instance, if your character Jane wants to get involved in a scene at the Court of Water at the same time your other character Bob wishes to scene in the Black Cat Bar, that is perfectly acceptable.)
- Also, you may have only one Celestian character per player at any given time, and only one character per organization. For this rule, the Police and the Army count as separate organizations.
- Concepts that cannot be applied for: due to concerns about the thematic knowledge necessary and the advantages given by these positions, players cannot apply for nobles of Luten, Manda, Hapta or Amera status or for a character actively serving in the Phalanx or Order of the Silver Crescent. These positions must be obtained only through roleplay. Exceptions may be made for nobles of higher rank on a person-to-person basis when we are in need- however, the staff reserves all right to deny these exceptions.
- Coaches and commends given out for RP should relate to your RP and your RP only--that is, scenes that you were directly involved in by having a character present. Coaches should also be stated as constructive criticism--please keep it as polite and objective as possible.
If you feel that the coach system has been abused, report the coach in question to staff via +str after the system cycles. Except in cases of blatant abuse (insults, non-constructive criticism, etc. count as blatant abuse) we will not otherwise investigate your coaches.
