Pain Resistance
From ElanVital
Basic Facts
Skill Definition: Pain Resistance is the ability to soldier on with physical action despite pain or injury.
Common Uses: Pain Resistance is not something most people usually train, though it -can- be taught through repeated exposure; more commonly it represents a natural degree of high pain threshold.
Rule Information
Rule Notes: Pain Resistance may be rolled to remove wound penalties from 1 roll per scene. The rolls work as follows:
Med-Fair: You can lower your penalty by 1, e.g., someone at -1 will roll at 0 and someone at -2 will roll at -1. Good-Great: You can lower your penalty by 2. Superb-Legendary: You can lower your penalty by -4.
Pain Resistance also interfaces with the health system, allowing a PC to take more damage before the penalties apply. The following rules govern its application to health at each level of the skill above Fair:
Good: You can take 1 more point of damage before you suffer a -1 modifier (-1 penalty requires 9 hp left, -2 requires 5)
Great: You can take 1 more point of damage before you suffer a -2 modifier (-1 penalty requires 9 hp left, -2 requires 4)
Superb: Your new highest HP penalized at -1 becomes 0 (-1 penalty requires 8 hp left, -2 requires 4
Legendary: Everything moves down 1. (-1 penalty requires 7 hp left, -2 requires 3, 0 is now -2 instead of -4)
Common Modifiers: Pain Resistance is typically rolled at 0.
Counterskills: Torture, Illusion when used to cause pain.
