Physical Description

A lentir is usually no more than a foot in length, with a small, sinuous body accustomed to quick, rodent-like movements. Accustomed to finding their way in the darkness, they have massive eyes and a small face with a pair of large, round ears. Their limbs are strong and flexible, made for climbing through the treetops, and instead of feet they have four hands with five digits and two opposable thumbs.

Their bodies are covered in pale grey fur, striped with tan and shades of green to aid them in blending in with their natural surroundings--and they do quite well at it. A tufted, prehensile tail finishes them off.

Magical Properties

Lentirs are known for their skill with illusion, which they use both for hunting and defense. When targeting prey, they will often distract it through use of illusion, or intimidate it by making their numbers seem greater. When threatened, the lentir has been known to use this skill to hide itself.

Habitat

Lentirs prefer wooded areas.

Social Behavior

Lentirs tend to move in troops of about twenty to thirty animals, both in order to protect themselves and in order to establish a better advantage over potential enemies. When threatened, they tend to cluster around their young in small knots. They both forage and hunt in troops, and establish themselves in a particular area--usually a designated tree will belong to a particular troop. When hunting or foraging, several adults remain behind to care for the young.

Young lentirs are born hairless, in litters of two or three and in nests built much like birds' nests in the troop's tree, from which point they take some four months to no longer require the administration of their parents, and six to be fully grown. It is suspected, but not proven, that lentirs also mate for life, and appear to share the duties of parentage equally.

The typical lifespan of a lentir is about five years.

Danger Level

Medium. The lentir's skill with illusion makes it a difficult enemy to face indeed, despite its relative size. Where they cannot kill you, it is nigh impossible to kill them. They are generally associated with a peculiar chuckling or purring sound created in the backs of their throats.
