Basic Facts

Skill Definition: Genetics is the skill concerned with the study of and manipulation of the genomes of humanity and other animals.

Common Uses: Genetics is a major science in Stocklin; for its history, read the article on Genetic Modification. Today in Titania, genetics is used to scan all children in-utero for birth defects, most of which can be corrected in the womb. Voluntary procedures include cosmetic modification, well-established at this point, and the newer and more controversial mental/physical enhancement procedures still in their relative infancy. Genetics can also be used for the manipulation of new life forms - a forced evolution, if you will. To be successful, however, requires that the genetic manipulation begin from the earliest stages of the life form's development, or earlier. Examples of work of this matter include the Gray Owls of House Stocklin, developed over several breeding generations.
