Article: In one of the more dramatic moments of an archaeological survey along the western banks of the Whiterush this month, Amera Felix Petakova stood at the mouth of a subterranean ruin where mankind has never once set foot.
130 feet below ground, the Amera wielded a sledgehammer to break open a sealed wall at the intersection of two ancient tunnels nearly 100 feet offshore. The last time living beings could have stood in that spot, the E.S. Starfall was generations away from its fateful landing.
"The successful tracking of the Scylla and Charybdis tunnels, between 1 and 1 1/2 miles, represents what we believe to be the most extensive delineation of a single, isolated cave culture system within Petakova," Dr. James Carlisle, Professor of Geology at the College of Titania, said.
Others pivotal finds are the identification of prehistoric machinery and tools, including sheets of fire-retardant material nicknamed "ironwood" which survived an apparent explosion intact. From these sheets was crafted the crown jewel of the team's find: a book containing pictograms and symbols which may represent the written language of the ancient society.
"There is no doubt that we have found the haystack," Guild Ambassador Amber Kingston, the expedition's organizer, said. "Nor that we are one giant step closer to uncovering the needles."
Kingston went on to credit Petakovan horticologist Tiras Taciasi, his sister Tiana, and Sergeant Eve Tossan for their discovery of the ironwood compound, and announced that cryptologist Luna Sparks would be placed in charge of decoding the esoteric texts. No statements were made regarding the machine unit, although it is widely speculated that this role will fall to the recently-resigned Stocklin Luten, Vaston.
The signature expedition of the Ozymandias Foundation has set the stride for the collective, and Ambassador Kingston has acknowledged a desire to keep its findings in the public arena. Samples of the uncovered materials, including impressions of the alien characters, are on display at the Titanian Museum of History in the Arcology's south bazaar.
