History:
A young noble, as nobles go - the Luten Everett Nathaniel Tannen Petakova is nontraditional, confrontational, steadily more controversial, and definitely becoming something of a small celebrity among those who stay glued to the gossip sheets and scandal rags.
Born in 681 to the Luten Markus Tannen Petakova, an architect of some renown - the only son and middle child of three, Everett proved to be unremarkable in his studies, unremarkable in his hobbies - and generally only proved to be any sort of 'unique' when he manifested as a Celestian at the age of fifteen. Even in the academy, his marks remained on the side of 'barely getting by', and his lunar index stayed firmly below average.
Over the last several years, he's apparently (and to the disapproval of most of the existing nobility that cares to watch the young) taken to a life of ease that involves drinking, a rapid succession of girlfriends of all social classes, a high-profile party scene, and dalliances with several known artists and fringe folk that have made him a scandal magnet. Every few weeks another story hits the tabloids of something else the Essen's managed to do, some further compromising position he's put himself in... but so far, he's only been arrested twice. That's saying something, isn't it?
He seems utterly unapologetic, utterly shameless, throwing himself into life with what some term utterly reckless abandon. Heedless of his station, he cuts a rakish swath right through the middle of the noble-watchers, poster-child for the frivolous, failing child of a far more useful noble family.
Common Knowledge and Rumor:
To those in Petakoven social circles? Everett is largely an example of what happens when a good mind is put to frivolous purpose. Generally considered a child of privilege and not much more, the nobleman has something of a reputation for drinking, dancing, and engaging in activities unsuitable to someone of his heritage. Of course, he's apparently landed a job in social service, but most call him a 'glorified courier' for the Keep and.. really? That seems to be most of what he's up to.
His parents are businessfolk, earning Luten status through a thriving architectural concern. Neither is a Celestian, though both are Lunists - their pride on having a son that proved to be one of the Lady's chosen was near immeasurable. As far as they're concerned, however, he's wasted his gifts - with fair to low grades in the Academy, an indifference to the family business and study, and a fixation on apparent frivolity that keeps him out at odd hours and has continued to plague their relationship.
To those on the street? He is a gregarious, friendly sort, prone to bar bets and buying rounds. Oh, there are those that say he asks far too many questions, but then - how do you get to know others without questions? Most would call him 'harmless enough', despite his known Celestian capabilities.
New Rumors:
Apparently somewhat domesticated, the Luten Petakova has settled in to some sort of public service involving ferrying paperwork between the Amera's office and the Militia - most wags call it an overpaid courier job. He has, however, rented offices and a flat in the Arcology, and is apparently sympathetic to the recent spate of hate crimes against the Artists in their alley, a stance that is neither politically expedient nor wise.
Which seems to be par for the course.
There's a lot of rumor flying that the Luten's making himself very busy, these days, and that business is being tolerated by the bureaucracy simply because it involves a desperate and sudden interest in classes at the Arcology campus, as well as sessions with private tutors; one thing's for sure, the gossip, while still interesting, has faded a bit simply because it doesn't seem he has enough time to get into trouble.
Time will tell.
Political Leanings:
Everett is a known member of the Promethians, attending the occasional meeting and speaking somewhat fervently about the possibilities inherent in some closer union of Stocklin's way of life and Petakova's more bucolic tendencies. He has a love for technology (which he admittedly barely comprehends) and a facination for its possibilities.
Further, he's been awfully sympathetic to both the Devotees of the White Lady and the Citizens Against Pomona despite not being a full member of either political sect; a Lunist, he nonetheless has expressed at least understanding of CAP's position, while his apologist behavior for the Devotees is more of a mystery regardless.
He has certainly, steadily, become more politically active of late.
The Scandal Rag:
(read the full story on the GOSSIP boards in-game!)
- GOS/1 : He was photographed in a rather compromisingly public position on the dance floor at Andantino's with a lovely, if relatively unknown woman.
- GOS/2 : He made the weekly roundup for a fight with a man dyed blue. No. Seriously.
- GOS/3 : Coverage of Everett's advancement party, yo. Mmm. Dancing.
- GOS/6 : Snogged by Samantha and speculation of more than one girl in the offing.
- GOS/7 : Out with a socialite, and invoking certain jealousy with the Lady in Red.
- GOS/8 : Caught in Andantino's, kissing a boy! Women everywhere mourn for about twenty minutes, then start writing slashfic.
Freerunning:
Everett is a known practitioner of the imported (and now ancient) terran art of Parkour - freerunning, to use the Titanian parlance. He's considered very good, perhaps even vying to be one of the best among those that practice it... but it isn't the sort of fame that moves far outside of what is largely considered to be a frivolous circle.
Trivia:
- The Luten has a nasty scar on his left hand that neatly coincides with a note in his police file involving attempted breaking-and-entering, charges dropped. Apparently, he misjudged a jump in Stocklin lands and put his hand through a window when catching himself on a ledge. He hung on rather than fall; it took months to heal, and still gives twinges in cold weather and is stiff to use.
- He was promoted from Essen due to involvement in the Torath Dimbleweed kidnapping resolution - precisely what that involvement was is still the subject of wide speculation. After all, the Luten is neither militia nor an agent of the state, and details of his utility have been difficult to track down with any reliability.
Lunar Index:
The Luten has a lunar index of 16, at last report, placing him among a mere four or five individuals in all of Titania with that level of raw Celestian capability. Interestingly, that index is up sharply from his last testing. In fact, it is a nearly unprecedented increase (from seven!) in the last year - fuelling all sorts of wild speculation.
It is absolutely certain, however, that he's not been able to cross the Arch in some time, apparently lacking the control it takes to suppress enough to do so.
Narcissistic Quotes:
From Amber Kingston in Noble Ambition:
- Amber permits a cock of head and a roll of eyes, directing a sharp huff of air upward to flutter her bangs, commenting, "Idiocy is bloody hardcoded into the Y chromosome."
- "You are, at best, an alley cat with a chewed ear and vaguely tiger-esque striping."
From Amelia Lazini:
- Amelia sticks her tongue out at Everett and then grins, "I see how you are. Afraid of a few risks. A shame."
From Lucille Wallingford:
- Lucille fiddles her fingers together, obviously giving the question serious consideration. "W-well, really, it wasn't a very complicated e-experiment, but considering all of the compatibility variables involved, and the fact that, w-well, we just sort of decided to -spontaneously- head to the lab at an unreasonably late hour, a-and really I didn't even h-have the chance to review any schematics with him or -anything-... Although I had the area already prepared... So that was helpful... I mean the results were still -unprecedented-! I would have to say, 'g-great' does not even begin to describe it. I would say -superlative-."
Notes:
- If you'd like a tie to Everett that goes beyond meeting him on the grid, feel free to ask. I'm up for just about anything, within reason - but I ask only that we talk it through first so we both know what sort of trouble we're getting into.
- I am the sort of person that welcomes most trouble with open arms. If you'd like to start it, finish it, throw it, shoot it, or otherwise instigate Trouble, feel free. Consider it carte blanche.. but understand that Ev will react, and may or may not react as you'd expect.
