Article: Amera Petakova has released the following statement:
"We have all just weathered a tremendous tragedy, and it is time I addressed it. I apologize most sincerely to all those who lost a loved one in the attacks last weekend. There is absolutely no gesture I could make for reparations; soldiers' pensions will not soothe broken hearts. All I can do is aim to avoid a repetition of this senseless tragedy.
Therefore, I am ending Petakova's participation in the outpost project. It is clear it will accomplish nothing, with the beasts' determination to destroy them, and only waste lives. We will not rebuild the destroyed structures; instead, we will focus on keeping a close watch on the forest. My aim and hope is that we will return to peace. There is no glory in war, only necessity, and lives should not be spent for the ideal that we have some unfettered right to expand into lands that we do not even need for survival. Do not think that we are cowering from the threat, however. Should they dare to strike again, challenge our wall and our city, we will punish them. We will fight with all the determination and strength of our ancestors, upholding the proud tradition of courage that has kept Titania here to this day.
And we will not be chased away from reclaiming what is ours, as well. A joint expedition of Petakova and Stocklin both will be returning to Petakovan Outpost 3 to take back the discovered wreckage, in great numbers. Let the beasts oppose us if they dare; they will face not a company but an army.
This city is ours, and everything we have earned with our blood and toil will not be taken from us. This I promise you- we will defend our home."
It is suspected this statement will do a good deal to put to rest the rumors that he died in last weekend's attacks; he has made no public appearances yet, but few have the power to dictate policy other than the Amera himself.
Public opinion seems to be divided on the subject of the outposts; a poll indicates that individuals old enough to remember the attacks of 693 are largely in favor of leaving them destroyed, whereas the younger generation edges more toward rebuilding them. The strongest opinions against rebuilding come from the individuals who survived the destruction.
Soldier Tomas Corevas, one of the Celestians who accompanied the research party to Petakova 3, commented: "I think it's a terrible idea. We lost too many good men for such an idea to be considered seriously again."
It remains to be seen what the true future of the outposts are, however; Stocklin may choose to go forward with the project unilaterally.
